The overall length of time taken for Individual Therapy varies widely. First sessions are effectively information gathering in order for your psychologist to determine a course of treatment. Individual therapy is a collaborative process where the client determines the therapeutic content, direction and pace with the aim of developing improved personal wellbeing.
The goals of couples therapy varies considerably. The focus of therapy may include premarital counselling, transitional periods such as early parenting, and conflict resolution through to preparation for and management of separation or divorce. The aim of Couples Therapy is to maintain the integrity of systems within the relationship to facilitate effective interpersonal relating.
When commencing Child Therapy the primary focus is on establishing a warm, safe, engaging relationship with the child to reduce their sense of vulnerability and to promote trust. This is achieved through play and child focused activities. Child Therapy provides the opportunity for meaningful development in learning, social skills, emotional regulation and behavioral management.
